THE PROGRAMME

This one-night fully catered visit to our Dewerstone Bunkhouse is ideal for those on their first residential. It runs for just over 24 hours, the focus being on: appreciation of the environment, living and working together, easy walking and achievable challenges.

The trips are run from November - March and are excellent value. Being in the quieter winter months we are able to offer this trip at £37.50 (+VAT) per child. This is fully catered and supported by our staff at all times.

Day One

We meet at Cadover Bridge and follow the "Pipe Track" to Shaugh Bridge. Depending on the weather we may stop for a picnic lunch.

This route follows the Upper Plym Valley through ancient woodland.  The walking is easy going and gently downhill most of the way and is sheltered in all but the worst conditions.  Along the way we learn about the local environment and history - these facts will be useful for the quiz  we have later that evening!

We arrive at our cosy Bunkhouse nestled in a valley above the River Meavy.  Our luggage will be ready and waiting for the children to get settled in.  After a short briefing all the children spend time making their beds and personalising them with artwork.

As we are in the hills in winter we have an Alpine theme to our menu. Dinner is our take on the hearty French classic Tartiflette (Dartiflette!) followed by a chocolate fondue. The children get involved in making their own Tartiflette and other preparations for the evening.

After dinner we will have quiet time for reading or games, followed by a short night walk around the trails close to the bunkhouse.  We follow one of these trails to the Climbers' Hut where a blazing wood burner and hot chocolate is waiting. We stay at the hut to play mountain-themed games and to try our quiz.

We then return to the Cottage and get ready for bed.

Next Day

After a leisurely breakfast, we pack our bags for the return home.  When we are packed, we go for a "weasel walk" with gentle scrambling under and over boulders to the summit of the local tor above the bunkhouse.

Lunch is freshly baked French bread pizza and fruit.

Finally we take a short walk back along the Meavy to meet our transport and return home.
