CLIMBING

 

Spirit of Adventure are pleased to offer a professional climbing guiding and instruction service.  Our base in the heart of Devon means we can provide personal guided climbing and trad skills courses on the sea-cliffs of Cornwall, Devon & Lundy Island.

With the help of our in-depth local knowledge and experience to guide you, our aim is to give you the opportunity to discover and climb some of its best routes as well as the chance to improve your own personal climbing skills.

We offer climbing guiding and instruction all year round on demand, and will travel to meet you wherever you wish to climb.  This means we can offer flexibility of venues and dates so you can climb when and where you want.

We offer guiding from one day to one week and we will tailor the day(s) to suit your aims based on your experience and personal climbing grade.  We operate at grades from VD to E5 - so that covers your first touch of real rock through to extreme adventures.

Our climbing expert is Stu Bradbury.  He has been climbing worldwide for the past 30 years, leading trad routes up to E7 as well as many new routes up to E6.

His personal passion is for trad adventure climbing with a particular interest in sea cliffs and their wild and natural environment.

Private Guiding

PRIVATE GUIDING

 

Our climbing days are ideal for climbers of all abilities - from novices wanting to experience their first touch of real rock to advanced climbers with years of experience who want to be pushed on harder routes or achieve their dream routes with a guide.

We offer a personal service with guide/climber ratios of 1:1 or 2:1 on routes & venues of your choice throughout Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Lundy, Swanage and more.  Venues include sea cliffs or inland and can run from one day to one week.

For experienced climbers we can guide you on classic climbs VD to E5 including but not limited to:

  • "Coronation street" (Chedder Gorge)
  • "Pacemaker" (Sharpnose Point)
  • "The Cull" (The Lizard)
  • "Commando Ridge" (Bosigran)
  • "Moonraker" / "Dreadnought" (Berry Head)

Our experienced guides can also travel with you further afield to routes in other areas such as North Wales if you wish.  Please contact us as we can be very flexible and are happy for you come with a defined list of climbs or we can suggest a tour of the best crags & routes at your chosen grade.

We also offer private guiding in various areas of Spain (Both sport or big multi pitch trad) at various times based on the season:

 

  • La Pedriza (Granite) Near Madrid.  Weeks & long weekends.
  • Montserrat towers (conglomerate) Near Barcelona.  Weeks & long weekends.
  • Pico's de Europa (Limestone) Northern Spain.
  • Costa blanca (limestone) Near Alicante.  Weeks & long weekends.
  • El Chorro (Limestone) Near Malaga.
  • Sierra Espuna (Limestone) A beautiful national park high above Murcia.
Climbing Instruction

CLIMBING SKILLS WORKSHOPS

 

Our climbing instructor is adept at developing your climbing skills.  He is a qualified Mountain Leader & holds the Mountain Instructor Award.  He has over 30 years of worldwide trad climbing experience.

Introduction (1 or 2 days)

Our climbing skills workshops give climbing wall climbers/beginners a taste of climbing outside on real rock.  The workshops build foundation skills, with plenty of climbing done in real situations on classic routes both single & multi pitch of a relevant grade.

  • Introduction to real rock.
  • Ropework Essentials.
  • Learn to Trad Lead.
  • Improving Trad Performance.
  • Sea Cliff Climbing Skills.
  • Rescue Techniques.

Instructor/Climber Ratio:  We can often do this on private guiding days on a ratio of 1:1 or 2:1

Improving Trad Performance: 

This workshop is packed with tips, tactics & techniques aimed at improving skills & confidence to allow climbers to improve their personal grade & become faster & slicker climbers.  It looks at both the physical & psychological aspects of climbing & touches on everything from slicker rope work & gear placement skills through to managing the head games which often holds many people back from achieving their full potential.
