ACTIVITIES & ADVENTURES
Spirit of Adventure was formed in 1993 and is based in Devon right in the heart of the wild and beautiful Dartmoor National Park.
Our base is Powdermills - a former 19th century gunpowder factory. This is a great location for providing fantastic adventure trips. From here we have easy access to rivers and moors for a host of activities including climbing, kayaking, walking, canoe journeys, raft building, navigation training & more.
We can organise part-day, whole day or overnight activities for you and we are also able to offer the use of two bunkhouses for overnight stays. We are also happy to organise alternative accommodation such as camping, guesthouses or hotels.
We only use qualified and experienced staff for the activities we offer so you can be reassured of challenging but safe activities.
Spirit of Adventure
Spirit of Adventure has been granted a licence by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA) to run canoeing, climbing and mountaineering activities. The authority regularly inspects our equipment and safety procedures and ensures that all our staff are suitably qualified.
Spirit of Adventure has a safety record second to none.
CLIMBING
The South West of England boasts some of the best climbing venues in the country, with the added bonus of higher temperatures and more sunshine hours on average than the rest of the country!
Many guests book exclusively for guiding on classic climbs and for personal tuition.
ADVENTURE WEEKENDS
If you are looking for an exciting, challenging break that includes a variety of outdoor skills then try one of our adventure weekends.
We can tailor a package to your requirements to include activities such as walking, climbing, navigation training, kayaking, raft-building, bush-craft etc.
GROUPS, SCHOOLS, HEN/STAG WEEKENDS
We will arrange tailor-made adventure weekends for all groups, of all abilities. You can choose what itinerary best suits your group’s ability ensuring everyone has a fantastic time. Give our office a call and we will help you organise your accommodation as well as a suggested itinerary.
KAYAKING
Spirit of Adventure offers you a unique programme of kayaking courses, and adventures. These take place either here in Devon or on the River Wye for a more adventurous journey. We offer competent, safe instruction at all levels.
Our highly motivated team of BCU coaches are always ready to help and give advice. Whether you are trying to paddle your kayak in a straight line or planning a more exciting journey either here in the UK or even abroad, we have the experience to help you.
It was a fantastic weekend and my body is only just recovering from the challenges I threw upon it!! Talk about complete escapism (and occasional madness!).

A Superb Moorland Base
Spirit of Adventure’s Powdermills base in the heart of Dartmoor National Park is a great location for outdoor activities.
We are right on the border between the North and South moors of Dartmoor with direct access onto the moors from the bunkhouse.
We also have a team of instructors and guides that know all the nooks and crannies of Dartmoor, summer or winter.
