Programmes for Schools & Young People
Spirit of Adventure has a wide range of activities and programmes for children and young people in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and across the westcountry.
We believe that young people can have a huge amount of fun and derive a great sense of personal achievement from outdoor activities and adventures. They can also learn skills and get a taste for sports and activities that they can enjoy their entire life.
Young Spirit - Adventure Based Education for Schools
Young Spirit is part of Spirit of Adventure that runs school residentials. It was formed as a result of a collaboration between Mark Reeves (who set up Adventure Challenge) and John Diplock of Spirit of Adventure. Mark now heads up our Young Spirit programmes
Young Spirit provides a truly memorable outdoor experience for primary age children, with an equal emphasis on fun and learning. They specialise in expedition-based programmes with all their main programmes including a short journey either on foot or by canoe. This frames the experience and adds authenticity.
The programmes may also include climbing, abseiling, bush craft, navigation, environmental studies and always problem solving and team working skills. All the programmes are challenging, yet enjoyable and accessible to all.
Both John and Mark share a wide experience and love of the outdoors and have a real desire to share it with others. These qualities have been the motivation behind this project.
Young Spriit is now well established and works closely with our school clients to develop programmes that meet their needs.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Programmes
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is the world’s leading achievement award for young people between the ages of 14 and 24.
The aim of the programme is to create a world where young people can reach their full potential whatever their circumstances. The programme provides a balanced series of activities that develops the whole person – mind, body and soul – in an environment of social interaction and team-working.
Young people progress through three levels of DofE programmes to achieve a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. Taking part builds confidence and develops self-esteem. It requires persistence, commitment and has a lasting impact on the attitudes and outlook of all young people who do their DofE.
Spirit of Adventure is an authorised provider of Duke of Edinburgh Award Programmes.
