A Walk on the Wild Side!!

The Trans-Dartmoor walk is a fantastic 25 mile weekend challenge. Dartmoor has been a National Park since 1951. Three hundred and sixty five square miles of beautiful wild moor-land landscape, stunning wooded valleys and wind swept Tors (rocky summits). Dartmoor is a rich habitat for many forms of wildlife and has a wealth of interesting archaeological remains.
This adventure starts on the southernmost edge of the national park and heads north towards Princetown. Leaving the picturesque villages behind the trek climbs up onto the open high moor-land. Fantastic distant views all around whilst passing remains of long abandoned clay and tin mines, reminders of a very different and tougher life style. Our journey takes us right into the middle of the south moor, truly wild country!
The route continues on over wild often featureless terrain eventually reaching Princetown at 1500ft above sea level making it one of the highest towns in England.

Here, a very warm welcome and a cup of tea from our guesthouse hosts, after a relaxing shower a stroll down the road to the pub for a well earned evening meal and perhaps a couple of pints of local ale!!

Sunday finds the group heading out onto the spectacular, wild upland landscape of the north moor. A vast, area of real open country - Cut Hill near Fur Tor is the furthest point from any road south of Northumberland. There are many haunting tales of navigational errors by local and visiting walkers! Under the guidance of a very experienced local guide the group will navigate across the wildest part of this beautiful unspoilt and remote fascinating landscape. Eventually reaching the northern boundry of the forest and the end of a real adventure!! You will accompanied throughout by a qualified mountain leader.
