Mexico - La Paz

La Paz on the Baja peninsular, on the Northwest coast of Mexico is our base for this fantastic trip in the Sea of Cortez. This expedition is one of North America’s favourite winter sea-kayaking trips and deservedly so! It offers the adventurer seven glorious days voyaging around 'Espiritu Santo' one of the most appealing islands anywhere. The rugged shoreline, off-shore islands and series of headlands and deep bays make each day a new adventure. The west coast of 'Espiritu Santo' is studded with some of the most spectacular white, sandy bays you can ever imagine while the east coast has enormous towering cliffs, bizarre rock formations and alluring sea caves. After paddling approximately 3-4 hours each day we will have plenty of time to enjoy fantastic snorkelling, to swim with sea lion pups, hike intriguing volcanic arroyos, bathe in the glorious Baja sun, watch manta rays leap up out of the water, admire a school of dolphins, explore hidden inland lagoons, sip a margarita and relax in great company..... Isla Espiritu Santo really is paddling in paradise - just ask anyone that has been there!

We can now offer two ways in which to explore this fantastic coastline.

Sea Kayak Expeditions:

We pack the sea kayaks and paddle from campsite to campsite. There is no panga (motorboat). It is therefore very much a group effort and with the help of your guides you carry all the gear, arrive at a beach, set up camp, organise meals, clean up, and continue to do this each day. The rewards lie in the tremendous feeling of self-sufficiency, a bonding team spirit, a real adventure and a marvellous sense of accomplishment. On the seven day trip we make a reprovision with refreshing drinks, freshly baked goodies, your midweek dinner, and your water and food for the second half of the week. Effectively the most you ever carry is three days supply of food and water. The midweek reprovision also enable us to take away your accumulated trash and of course take you out to swim with the sea lion pups!

In accordance with the groups dietary requirements your guides will have already prepared a menu plan. The guides will organise each meal and the group takes it in turns helping. Everyone cleans their own dishes. We find this shared catering actually enhances the feeling of comradeship and brings the group together to discuss the days experiences or the next days plans.

The following option may suit if you prefer a more leisurely tripFully Catered, Motorboat Assisted Trips:

The itinerary remains very much the same, you still paddle from camp beach to camp beach exploring the island as you go. However a panga (motorboat) carries all the camping gear and provisions leaving you to paddle light empty kayaks. This eleviates the repetitive task of squeezing all your gear into tiny compartments only to unpack again a few hours later. It is also physically easier to paddle a light kayak!

The panga driver and guides will take care of providing you with three healthy meals a day and all the cleaning up. A huge bonus is being able to take coolers so that we can offer you ice cold beverages throughout the trip. If the focus of your adventure is not always to kayak you can hitch a ride in the panga with your kayak in tow so you have more time to snorkel, to practice your Spanish or quite simply - to take it easy!!
