Everest Base Camp Trek

Nepal

The Kingdom of Nepal is a country full of fascination, a hidden Kingdom of great beauty embracing eight of the world's 14 highest peaks. Everest, Lhutse and Nuptse are amongst the highest. However even this incredible landscape pales into insignificance in comparison to the warmth and generosity of it's people. Both the lowland Hindu and the highland Sherpa people have an incredible way of relating to their fellow 'man', being relaxed, good humoured, hard working and terrific trekking companions.

Kathmandu,

Nepal's capital, this fascinating city which rose to prominence in the medieval times, is now a bustling and exciting city with a rich mixture of cultures. Kathmandu’s bustling International Airport can be a confusing place for the first time visitor, however with your guide to help you, no worries. Having passed through immigration you collect your bags and go through customs whom do not generally offer problems to tourists (although valuable items like video cameras may be noted on your passport for re-export). Outside the building is a chaotic scene similar to any third world airport forecourt. Boys try whisking away your luggage to one taxi, while drivers pull you another way. Do not worry, you will be met by a representative from Spirit of Adventure who will pay any porters who may have taken your bags. We provide transport and escort you to your guesthouse. Once you have settled in there will be a briefing on preparations for the trek and the programme for the next few days.

After an exhilarating flight into the mountain town of Lukla we start our trek towards Namche Bazaar, the headquarters of the Sherpa people with it's bustling markets and friendly, smiling people. We will have a day to explore the narrow tracks and shops selling goods from Tibet and the surrounding villages. From Namche we continue to Thyangboche and a chance to visit the famous monastery. Our base here provides superb views of Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Lhotse. Over the next few days we slowly ascend through Sherpa villages and stunning mountain scenery to Gorak Shep (5191m) our highest base. Nearby Kala Pattar gives you stunning views of the South West face of Everest, Nuptse and the Western Cwm. We will then trek up the Khumbu glacier to Base Camp with superb views of the famous Khumbu ice fall.

The Khumbu Region

Is rugged with the highest Mountain on Earth at the head of the Valley. This is the land of the Sherpa people, who's symbols of Buddhism, monastries, prayer flags and monuments are everywhere. Your exploration will introduce you to the mountains and the people, trekking though pine forests, yak pastures and higher to the great glaciers and Everst Base Camp.

Autumn is an excellent time to trek, the weather is generally good with crystal clear days and quiet trails. The nights are likely to be cold particularly at higher altitudes. With the hard work behind us, our return down the valley, through Rhododendron and Birch forests is relaxed and easy and cumulates in an exciting flight back to Kathmandu.
