INTRODUCTION TO KAYAKING
Learn to Kayak whilst having Fun!
Our Personal Proficiency Courses will introduce you to the fun and excitement of paddling your own kayak. Our coaches will go through the basics stokes, advise you on clothing and safety equipment and teach you basic rescue techniques. You will do plenty of paddling and by the end of the weekend you will have a good foundation to progress in the sport. We believe in having fun whilst learning, so plenty of activity games to help you perfect those new skills. Our kayaking courses are run on the edge of Dartmoor, lovely clean water on a secluded lake making it an ideal location to enjoy the thrill of learning a new skill.
Excellent qualified instructors that are enthusiastic and experienced to ensure you are safe and get value for money.
These courses are normally run over a weekend, however you may wish to arrange different dates to suit your requirements, simple contact us and let us help you arrange your course.
Optional 3rd Day
Stay for an extra day and explore by kayak or canoe one of Devon's fantastic river estuaries, put your new found skills to the test. These days are always fun and such a great way, not only to see the beauty of Devon but providing a grand finale to a fast action adventure and memorable weekend!!
We will provide all the specialist equipment required - this includes wet-suits, cagoules, buoyancy aids kayaks and paddles.
BCU Star Award
These courses are for beginners or people who have very little paddling experience. During the weekend we will progress skills which are all part of the BCU Star award system for paddling proficiency. At the end of the weekend you will have the opportunity to be tested for your 1 star and possibly 2 star award depending on your previous experience.
Maximum instructor to paddler ratio 1: 7
We are an approved British Canoe Union (BCU) centre which certifies that our kayaking, canoeing and water based sessions are run to the highest standards and that our equipment is up to date and well maintained.
Spirit of Adventure is inspected regularly by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA) and has been granted a licences to run canoeing, climbing and mountaineering activities. The authority inspects our equipment and safety procedures and ensures that all our staff are suitably qualified.
Accommodation.
We will arrange your accommodation for you, there are hotels, guesthouses, hostels, bunkhouse and campsites on the moor. Many people choose to stay in our Bunkhouse at Powder Mills which you may want to check out! If you are local to Dartmoor you are very welcome to travel up each day and join us on the lake.
