Cycling the trail

North Devon Coastt

Cycling the Tarka Trail.

This is a new trip for 2012 taking in some of the beautiful North Devon countryside and coast, taking us through the historic market towns of Barnstaple and Bideford on the way. The Trail starts in Braunton and finishes in Meeth a total of 31 miles .

We would be cycling on average 10 miles a day, so 3 days in the saddle with a rest day in the middle where we will go for a walk and explorer the coastal path in north Devon. Each day we will  start cycling at around 10am after a hearty breakfast to give us the energy for the day ahead, then en-route we will stop for a picnic lunch,. Probably plan a look around Barnstaple and Bideford on our way through, we will aim to finish cycling around 3 pm each day which will then give us time to get back to the campsite and have a shower before cooking dinner.  On the last night please bring some spending money for an evening meal in a local pub.

All of the cycle track follows the old railway track going over some lovely old bridges and through old rail tunnels.

This trip is aimed at those who can ride a bike but there is an option to peddle a tricycle or tandem  with Sam or Mick.

Before booking on this trip please make sure you are confident on the basics of a bike i.e. peddling forwards and stopping. But having the options of the tricycles is great if your balance isn't so good.

The accommodation will be tents for the week at a lovely campsite situated right next to the Tarka trail and we will use the mini bus to take us to the start of our leg each day and pick us up and take us back to the campsite.
