Climbing - Single Pitch Award (SPA) Training
The skills needed to supervise groups of novice climbers in potentially hazardous environments are different to those required to climb safely with friends.
Our Single Pitch Award (SPA) training course takes place in the Dartmoor National Park and provides training and assessment on how to organise and supervise safe, effective and enjoyable sessions for relatively novice climbers on single pitch crags and climbing walls. The courses are run under the Mountain Leader Training Board (MLTB) umbrella.
The training courses are run over two days - normally a weekend, however additional courses are always being arranged. If the dates below do not suit you please contact us to get the latest dates.
Qualified & Experienced Staff
John Diplock MIA, is a member of the Association of Mountain Instructors and has many years of experience. He has climbed extensively throughout the UK as well as Spain, and Nepal. He is an SPA course provider for Mountain Leader Training England (MLTE).
Pre-requisites for the Course
You must have attended an SPA Training Course and be competent on severe grade rock. You should also have completed any group experience work recommend during your training course.
Consolidate your Skills
You may also be interested in the SPA module of Instructor Training Course which provides 8 days of climbing tuition (a chance to consolidate your skills) before an Assessment Course.

Accommodation
The courses are normally run from Powder Mills on Dartmoor. Most participants stay in Powder Mills Bunkhouse, however you are very welcome to camp or we can arrange alternative accommodation. If you are local you may wish to travel in each day.
